I used for 1 year the first one made by IZ8EQC with excellent reports in FM (hitting repeaters) and in digi (packet), here we have the 2.0 version.

As you can see, Cosenza has a lot of hills around, they are 7 (like Roma, hihi).

Here we can see the “Rione Massa”, some hills and then Sila’s mountains…with some snow spots. (we are looking to EST)

And now some pictures of the Svevian Castle with a short description (for complete info check on wikipedia)

In 1432 King Louis III of Anjou settled in the castle of Cosenza with his wife Margaret of Savoy.
When she died untimely (1434) she was buried in the Cathedral.

The castle is on the top of the hill.
It was builded by Norman’s on old ruins of a Saracen fort.. A next stage (the final) was under the reign of Federico II of Svevia, during this period our city was very important.

As you can see, the tower is Svevian, but this castle was modified during the centuries and each owner did changes..

Tower n.1 @ IQ8CS, actually (november 2008) holds a 2el mono for 40m, a horizontal dipole for 10-15-20, a wire loop for 80m, a collinear for aprs and a small yagi for 6m.   We are ready to set up a second tower, probably with monobanders for 20m and 15m.

This is me mounting a vertical monobander for 10m @ the flat roof.

Sunset seen from Della Valle Castle. This Castle is wonderful looking, it dominates a lot of kilometers of coast since 1054 d.C.
It’s builded by Normans on the top of an high rocky hill and was perfect for defence and area-monitoring purposes.
It was quite completely destroyed by Napoleon’s assault troops (1807) but is’s still beautyful.
In august 2003 I was active as IZ8ESX/P for italian castles award (DCI CS-053) with my good friend Costantino (IZ8EPX) thanks to the town-major and pro-loco association….there are a lot of wall-paintings inside, absolutely wonderful!!

This is my 2m mobile, I was hitting a repeater located in Sicily Island with only 2W… HIGH HILL + SALTY WATER is the best for qrp operations!!
